Theater helps people come out of their shells. Adults often lack the opportunity to express themselves due the busy-ness of everyday life. Through participation in a theater club or group, adults have the opportunity to engage in an activity with other like-minded individuals and can express themselves in new ways and discover techniques that are fulfilling and rewarding.
Our mission is to create opportunities for people age 55 and up to participate in the performing arts, regardless of their previous experience. Through the stories we tell, we will honor the wisdom we gather as we age, and celebrate the experience of getting older. This program will benefit participants cognitively and socially through the application of an intentional curriculum that teaches skills in theatre arts. The teaching artists and leaders at Northern Starz hope that participants will feel welcome to be creative thinkers, try new activities, and leave each class with a sense of accomplishment.
The process of aging has its challenges, but it doesn't have to. That's why we love being part of the Jewels of deNial Troupe at Northern Starz Theatre! Each week we meet to brainstorm new ideas for our scripts - based mostly on real life events. Of course, those stories have been modified with a little extra pizazz and razzle dazzle. They say LAUGHTER is good medicine. Come and join in the fun at our next scheduled event. . .(NOTE: This Troupe is currently looking for understudy performers. While our annual Gala fundraising event was successful, we unfortunately fell short of our goal. We still need to make up for a $20,000 gap. These dollars will go toward keeping our doors open so that we are able to continue with our mission and bring the performing arts to all ages and all abilities in the community. We know we can do it with your help!
