Theatre Shows at Northern Starz

The auditions for an upcoming production of Cinder White are underway and Ms. Thespis, the drama teacher, is greeted by a small group of students, each with a particular “look” and personality – the “diva,” the “quiet girl,” the “nice girl,” to name a few. To Ms. Thespis, casting this show seems like a no-brainer. However, when she comes down with a case of appendicitis, Ms. Ball, the gym teacher, needs to step in and direct the show, mostly because she feels guilty for balding Ms. Thespis’ pet ferret.

The other snag is that the students have all mysteriously been cast in the “wrong roles”- the “nice girl” is now the villain, the diva only has 2 minutes onstage, and the quiet, almost inaudible, “ensemble” girl is now playing a leading role with actual lines! As these characters awkwardly venture into unknown territory, they are forced to see themselves as more than their “type” and learn to, in the words of Ms. Ball, “play the roles they’re all totally wrong for.”

With compassion, humor and dramatic tension, The Miracle Worker explores the volatile relationship between a lonely teacher and her headstrong charge.

Trapped in a secret, silent world, unable to communicate, young Helen is violent and spoiled, treated by her family as subhuman. Only Annie sees a mind and spirit waiting to be rescued from Helen's dark, tortured silence. After scenes of intense physical and emotional struggle, Helen's breakthrough finally arrives with the utterance of a single, glorious word: "water."

This charming play touches upon how special we are.  Do-Nothing Dale, a little picked-upon wizard, wants to know what her little bit of magic is.  On her journey to find out, she meets people like the laughing Coco the Clown and the singing Marilyn Melody, and she finds that she’s just as special as everyone else in the world.  Bright musical numbers add sparkle to the story.

Tech Difficulties lead our Jewels to the unsuspecting Tech Guy, and uncharted territory as he helps them navigate through Technical Difficulties. Also, Valentine's Day is coming up and we find the Jewels using their newly acquired computer skills to explore on-line dating! Will they find the men of their dreams? Scenes From A Hat is performing live on stage at The Galaxy Event Center at Northern Starz. 

Join the fun as you watch "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" inspired improv comedy. Not only will you laugh, but you will get the opportunity to challenge the improvisers with scene suggestions. Nothing is rehearsed. There are no scripts! Fun for all ages!
